I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT #23566) with psychotherapy practices in Los Altos and Berkeley. I enjoy working with individuals addressing issues related to anxiety and depression, adjustment challenges in work or family, parenting, aging, LGBT issues, addiction and grief.
I am also certified through UC San Diego School of Medicine as an MBCT (Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy) instructor.

I draw from psychodynamic and cognitive/behavioral models and am increasingly inspired by the usefulness of training attention and awareness.

Using mindfulness practices as one of the treatments for anxiety and depression invites us to slow down and turn towards our immediate experience as a way to experience the freshness and vitality of the moment, thereby overriding habitual thinking.  Profound transformation can occur in such moments as we become more comfortable with our fears. We can learn to soothe ourselves, become kinder to ourselves and others and see that we have more choices available to us.

In addition to my psychotherapy practice, I teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View.

The challenge and promise of my work is to bring together our mutual strengths

with the intention to live more fully.

I completed Deborah Abraham’s mindfulness course several months ago.  Through a series of guided meditations and safe discussions with the other participants, I learned a new way of understanding my reactions to life experiences.  The mindfulness techniques I learned are having a profound favorable effect as I work through a very stressful period in my life – helping me maintain an optimistic outlook and a vision of a better future."

Our professional group, the California Society for Clinical Social Work/Mid-peninsula District was fortunate to have Deborah Abraham present on "Mindfulness in Clinical Practice" at our monthly clinical meeting.  We were introduced to the application of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and how and who might benefit from it. An experiential exercise helped illustrate the practice. The audience was enthusiastic about Deborah's warm and engaging style and the usefulness of the material.
